Code of Conduct

1. Purpose
The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to ensure that all members, guests, and participants of the Ottawa Home Brew Society contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and responsible brewing community.
2. Respect and Inclusivity
- All members shall treat each other with respect and courtesy, regardless of experience level, background, or personal beliefs.
- Discrimination, harassment, or bullying will not be tolerated. This includes offensive comments related to race, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, or religion.
- Members shall be welcoming to newcomers and encourage a supportive environment for learning and sharing brewing knowledge.
3. Responsible Alcohol Consumption
- The Organization promotes responsible brewing and alcohol consumption. Members shall conduct themselves in a manner that does not endanger themselves or others.
- Members must respect all legal drinking age laws in Ontario (currently 19+).
- Members should avoid excessive consumption at events and never drink and drive. Designated drivers and responsible transportation options should be encouraged.
4. Safe and Ethical Brewing Practices
- Members must follow safe brewing practices, including proper sanitation and responsible handling of ingredients and equipment.
- No member shall use or encourage the use of unsafe, illegal, or unethical brewing techniques.
- The Organization does not condone the production or distribution of illegally distilled spirits (e.g., moonshine) or any activity that violates Canadian alcohol laws.
5. Respect for Property and Event Venues
- Members shall respect the property, equipment, and facilities used for meetings, tastings, and events.
- Any borrowed or shared equipment must be returned in good condition and as agreed.
- Members are responsible for cleaning up after themselves at events and respecting host venues’ policies.
6. Conflict Resolution
- Any disputes between members should be resolved respectfully.
- If a conflict arises, it should be brought to the attention of the Executive Committee, which will handle it fairly and confidentially.
- The Executive Committee reserves the right to issue warnings, suspend, or revoke membership for violations of this Code of Conduct.
7. Compliance with Laws
- Members must comply with all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws related to alcohol production and distribution.
- No member shall use the Organization for commercial purposes without approval from the Executive Committee.
8. Enforcement
- Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in verbal warnings, written warnings, suspension, or permanent expulsion from the Organization.
- Serious violations (e.g., harassment, illegal activity) may be reported to authorities if necessary.
Acknowledgment
By joining the Ottawa Home Brew Society, all members agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.
